LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY

LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY

Lyrical and Contemporary are slightly different but each being a broad form of dance where they learn to move their body in different ways. There is really no right or wrong with this style in class as we like to watch the students let go and become their own dancer. The students will learn movements which will either be soft or hard hitting but showing technique through their dance. Students will learn a routine with different timing, floor work, change of direction and balance. Lyrical and Contemporary are very popular and the work and style is always changing.

About Lyrical and Contemporary Dance

Lyrical and contemporary dance are slightly different from each other. But they both share two defining elements: the beauty and grace of classical ballet, and the high energy of jazz technique.

On a deeper level contemporary dance is about challenging the status quo. By challenging pre-conceived ideas that relate to structure, form, rhythm and dynamics – new and inventive forms of expression are realised.

Lyrical and contemporary dance classes in Perth incorporate underlying themes into the choreography. This involves the dancers working together to pull off stunning choreography and injecting a strong sense of emotion and passion into their craft.
